“Fashion can be bought. Style one must possess.” – Edna Woolman Chase
I remember once in high school I was talking with a friend who was a competitive dancer. (You know, like the girls on Dance Moms.) She was mentioning that she recently received an award for “Best Stage Presence.”
“Wow,” I said, thinking of my teenage ambitions of Broadway. “I wonder if I can develop stage presence….”
To that, she bust out laughing.
“You can’t develop stage presence, silly! You either have it or you don’t!”
Huh.
Although I have been told that I do have stage presence, clearly today I am not a star on Broadway.
When I read this quote, it brought be back to this high school conversation. Style cannot be bought and it cannot be taught. It is something innate within you. The good news, though, is that, unlike stage presence, everyone has their own style . . . . The same way that no one can give it to you, no one can take it away. It’s just a matter of discovering what your personal style is.
Erica over at Your Chic is Showing is doing a great blog series on developing your signature style. She also created a great fashion challenge for the month of August – wear a different outfit everyday! Be sure to stop by and check her out!
